How I Came to Know “The Cheen.”

Seven years ago a good friend of mine called me, “Hey buddy, I have a friend who has a female pit-bull to adopt — she comes from a good family — what do you think?” Already having a pit-bull I had reservations. Nala is very territorial and having two female pits can be challenging. I conveyed my concerns to my friend, but he shared her story that she had been a beloved pet of a mother of three kids who had a heart attack and died, and they found “Mocha,” later to be called “Cheen” laying next to her previous owner’s body. My friend also added she was in danger of ending up in a shelter and I thought about if for a second and said I would speak to whomever had her at that point and go pick her up. The deceased woman’s adult daughter had her I spoke with her and agreed to meet her in some rural parking lot in northeastern P.A. to collect her.

I drove to the meeting in an Autumn evening and the young woman and her two young brothers whom she was caring for now since the mother passed at the agreed upon…
